During his studies at the TU Darmstadt, he already dealt with future transport options at Frankfurt Airport – and he has been fascinated by the airport ever since: "The versatility captured me instantly when I started working here.” As project manager for the new People Mover, he is responsible for coordinating the construction companies and the responsible departments. State-examined industrial divers like Carsten Thörmer rarely experience an ordinary office day at their desk: Their workplace is below the surface of the water. And that's where teamwork is needed, because only with clear communication between colleagues on land and the diver under water can the work be carried out safely and correctly. Carsten Thörmer sees the special challenge for him and his team on the Terminal 3 construction site in the fact that "this 'jigsaw puzzle' will ultimately produce a picture. Therefore, all trades have to work together across the board." To motivate, communicate and moderate: As project manager for the main building, Christian Bierend is responsible for managing and bringing together the diverse interests of the people on and around the Terminal 3 construction site on a daily basis. What helps him in particular? His technical training as a gas and water fitter. This is another reason why he knows that “the workmen are the most important people in this project". And even an experienced project manager like Christian Bierend finds it difficult to grasp the project's dimensions.
